It’s times to realise your dream of owning a car

Buying a car was always a dream for me since childhood as I belonged to a middle-class family. I clearly remember those days, when my dad used to travel by bus every day. In fact, I had also travelled with him by bus many a times. While travelling, I always used to prefer window seat and wonder how comfortable journeys would have been for people travelling in a car. Whenever I used to ask my dad about when we were going to purchase a car, his answer always revealed that money was a big constraint which kept us away from purchasing it. But, that desire always remained in my heart. And, now when I aspire to realise that dream, money still remains an issue for us.

This problem was soon sorted when I came to know about Shriram Automall through a friend. I shared my problem with him and he took me to one of the physical bidding locations of company. I was simply amazed to see a wide range of used cars that the company had within the premises of its Automall. And, the best part about acquiring a car from there was transparency that the company maintained in its deals. We all know that buying a used car in India is big risk for people. But, when I saw everything at Shriram Automall, automatically the trust developed. The company also provides loan on used cars through its parent company, STFC. Now, I feel anyone can realise his/her dream of owning a car through this platform without any issue.

Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) has set up various Automalls across the nation in order to serve the wheeling dreams of people. It provides a wide variety of used vehicles and equipment on different bidding platforms, like Physical Bidding, Online Bidding, One Stop Classified and Private Treaty.

“The inception of SAMIL was aimed at realising the dreams of people by providing structured bidding platforms for the trade of pre-owned vehicles and equipment. Today, it feels proud to see several people living happily with their dreams come true through SAMIL.” – Mr. Sameer Malhotra, CEO of SAMIL

Used cars market booming in India

With used cars in India winning the race over new cars, India is gradually catching up with the world around. In case of new cars, the sales figures always showcase a lower trend with discounts at high rates which further forces the government to cut down excise duty for generating demand. The average sales figure for used cars is 3 million whereas it is 2.7 million for new cars. On comparing growth figures between the two, the situation is harsher as it is 22-25% for used cars and a flat figure for new ones in the last 3 years.
As per industry officials, Indian auto market is heading towards growth just exactly the US way where  annual sales of used car is three times the sales of new cars i.e. 44 million.

With the recent reduction in excise duty, a change is definitely expected in the business scenario. The used car business is certainly going to witness an upward trend because of a well-organised structure now.

How Can We Buy a Used Car in India?

Over years, we have seen automobile industry enhancing its horizon to a great extent. Despite of new launches, every year, pre-owned segment of the industry is also gaining pace through structured platforms for trade. The major factor that contributes in people’s preference for used cars in India is price. Cost of new cars is always comparatively lower than the new ones. Pre-owned cars serve you an opportunity to enjoy luxury while investing less amount of money. Apart from all the positive aspects of pre-owned cars, there is a major drawback in dealing with such cases and that is risk. Instead of brand name, present condition of the vehicle contributes in your decision. Hence, one needs to extremely cautious while purchasing a used car. Let’s take a look at how we can do this without incurring any loss.

·      While you choose your pre-owned car, always opt for the latest option. Many a times, people just sell their nearly new cars a few months later to the purchase. In such a scenario, the warranty of those cars does not expire and gets transferred to the new owner. That will certainly contribute in peace of mind after you own it.
·         The best way to reduce the level of risk involved in such transactions is proper research on used car before finalising the deal. This way you get an assurance of your flawless journey with the used car ahead.

Five things to know while buying a used car

Auto manufacturers and dealers are promising fabulous discounts and freebies for those planning to make a purchase of new or used cars in India. Go through the following pointers before you avail of them.

1. New year, old model

Car companies usually offer big discounts in December to clear their inventories before they hike prices and launch new models in January. If you buy now, your vehicle will bear the registration date of December 2013, and in a few days, it will be last year's model.

This should not matter if you are planning to use the car for at least 7-8 years. However, if you plan to change the car in 3-4 years, the registration date will matter. A 2013 model will fetch a lower resale price four years down the line.

Hence, it will be prudent to wait till January to buy it. Remember that a new car should be used for at least 8 years to get a full return on investment. Sell it earlier and you could lose out on its value.

2. Buy within your means
The bigger the car, the fatter the discounts being offered. However, don't let the freebies entice you into making a purchase you can't afford. The golden rule is that the price of a car should not be more than 60% of your annual takehome income.

3. Consider the offers closely

While you should not look a gift horse in the mouth, when it comes to freebies from car dealers, a closer look is necessary.

4. Transfer the no-claim bonus

All car owners know that if you don't make a claim in a year, the next year's premium fetches a discount. However, few know that a noclaim bonus can be transferred to another vehicle, bringing down the insurance cost of a new car.

5. Petrol, diesel or CNG?

Petrol is the costliest car fuel, but petrol cars are the cheapest. Diesel is inexpensive, but the diesel variants of cars are costlier by Rs 75,000-1 lakh. They also require higher maintenance.

Important factors that affect the resale value of your used car

All the care that you have been doing for your car over the years will actually pay you off at the time when you want to sell off your car. The resale value that you fetch will determine how successful you were at your task. But what are these factors that determine the market price of your car? Here are some that might be of help to you:
 1. Mileage: The mileage your car delivers is probably one of the most vital aspects that would determine the resale value of your car. Lesser the kilometres recorded in your car, the better the price you will get. On an average, 10,000 – 12,000 kilometres per year is considered to be about average; anything that’s more than that will fetch you a lesser amount.
Image
2. Condition: All kinds of dents, scratches, chipped paints and holes add to the negative value for your car. A well kept car always pays off well. Apart from the exteriors, the interiors of the car can also make a lot of difference in the resale value of the car. Door panels, seats, headliner, carpet, and console all need to be in a good condition, even if the doors don’t open freely it is likely that this will depreciate the value.
3. Make and model: Certain make and model like Maruti’s Swift, Alto, Honda’s City and Hyundai’s Accent are more in demand in the used market than others, which means they will definitely fetch you a higher value depending on their year. All imports too have a high demand in the used market.
4. Accessories: All electric accessories like the power windows and door locks, the interior lights, the radio or CD player and heater or A/C Controls, all need to function properly to add to the total amount.
 5. State of registration: All motorised road vehicles are tagged with a registration or licence number in India. The number is issued by the district-level RTO (Regional Transport Office) of respective states. Different states have different registration values, for example, a car that is registered in Rajasthan will have a higher registration charge than the one registered in Haryana.
6. Season: Though it’s not that a big factor that would affect the resale value but can surely add to the price. Try and sell your car in a period like Navratras, Diwali or year end, when people are in a mood to splurge in shopping and have a reason to buy a car.

Eye on Used Vehicle Market in India

Indian used vehicle market is expected to hot up with a lot of rank 1 brand proactively lining up their used assets in the said market. Leading brands of both cars and bikes have unveiled plans to expand in the segment.

The trend also shows that more first time drivers are looking to buying a used car and more first-hand car owners are in plans to exchange their assets within four to five years' time. Also, used vehicle market is expected to grow with many original equipment manufacturers launching their used car ventures.

With the flourish of the market for used cars and used bikes, a daunting apprehension has also been growing regarding the authenticity of the assets. Hence it becomes equally important to be knowledgeable enough about the vehicle that you are attempting to buy. A proper pre-purchase inspection is hence required.

While inspecting a used car or pre-owned bike get to your appointment 20 minutes early. The early bid not only catches the worm it might catch the seller polishing the get up like adding fluids etc. to make an engine or transmission run smoother, thereby making the asset convincing enough for selling.

More than believing on the story tellers in this particular segment of market for second hand cars and bikes, you must inspect your selected asset and must not opt for it in case of even a fraction of doubt related to the same.

How to sell a used car?

India has a great potential market for used vehicles. While buyers are many, the count of sellers isn't also lagging behind. However, to sell a used cars, certain diplomatic and to a little extent manipulative approach needs to be followed.

The first and foremost priority that needs to be taken care of is to enlist all the positive aspects of the car that you are attempting to sell. The vehicle may be too old but may just feature some of the best performances. Make sure you highlight these to promote your product for sale.

If the positive aspects outnumber the negative or the poor performing features, your quotation of price can ideally be on a little higher side. The price quotation however, also depends on the count of years. Make sure your suggestion on the price range justifies the performance status as well as the years of usage.

You may attempt to promote your used car through a dealer. Advertising your car online through trusted and authentic websites is also a smart option. Spreading the message through words of mouth also acts well many a times. Advertise your car through as much possible medium for quick and random responses.

After walking the path of all these promotional ways, once you are in terms with a prospective buyers, be convincing yet diplomatic enough. In the middle of everything you must not take your customer’s knowledge for granted either. Generally, people attempting to buy a car, are well equipped with the required knowledge and a know-about of the car’s database. There should not be any fake commitments and exaggerated information from your end. The negotiations and settlements should be done at the mutual interest of the buyers and the sellers. Well, as they say, its always Survival of the Fittest. You ought to pave your way out to a satisfying selling budget by using the best of your persuading skills.

Shriram Automall India Limited assists in deciding the best of vehicles, depending upon our concerns. SAMIL puts forth the most professional bidding platforms for buying and selling of  used cars India and vehicles.
